Community Choirs Festival – Saturday 9th July 2016

The d.@rt Centre  are delighted to be hosting  their third  Community Choirs Festival and we hope that your choir would like to join us in 2016.

The aim of the festival is to bring together choirs from across Hampshire to enjoy participating in two workshops, have an opportunity to sing collectively and a chance to perform a set of songs indicative of each choir’s style in a  short concert.

The order of the day will be as follows:

Our workshops this year will once again be led by local choir leaders. They will each be running their chosen workshop twice so choir members can choose to participate in two of the three workshops on offer.

    Workshops are:

    1. Making Melody:- looking at shaping of phrases/light and shade in tonal expression/ where and when to use rubato and emphasis
    2. Singing not Speaking:– exploring the difference between singing and speaking and how this affects the quality of sound/ e.g. the body as a sound box/ vowels and consonants/ reducing the effect of dialect
    3. Singing Together:- Focussing on listening to each other in regards to pitching/the sound being produced/ entry points / staying on the beat

There will be a £5 registration fee for persons attending the workshop sessions. There is no charge for choir members who do not attend the workshops but sing in the evening concert.
