March Highlights

It’s been a jam-packed month full of words, books and poetry and we’ve loved every minute…

What’s New?

We have had a wonderful couple of weeks celebrating our WordPlay Festival. We have had lots of wordy fun and its not all over yet! So far we have held our Family Fun day where we ran numerous art and literary workshops, we even had a local author come in B Random who led a creative writing session.

We had a fantastic morning with our Hedge End Arts Elders group where we held an tricky spelling bee which was great fun and got us all thinking, and created a decoupage bookmark. If you haven’t been involved in our WordPlay festival yet, its not too late…

We still have our Open Community Poetry Jam which we are super excited for on Tuesday 2nd April where we will welcome passionate performers to the stage! Tickets are free for performers, if you would like to perform please contact d.logan@wildern.org or turn up and enjoy and eclectic evening of poetry, cake and chat! And we have a Book Club Special coming up with Local Author Dai Henley on Thursday 11th April. He will be joining us for an exciting evening evening of open book reading and talks.

We had a fantastic evening at our Open Mic night, led by our Jon Prince. The foyer was buzzing with guest performances from We Know JohnFeathers Wood ‘N’ StringAndy Billington Music and Ethemia who came down from Cirencester. It was a fabulous farewell to our Jon from the d.@rt centre who will be leaving his regular job but we are pleased to say will remain our open mic genius.

Don’t Forget…

The Easter Holidays are only A WEEK AWAY!!! We have planned lots of fun filled sessions with all things Easter themed, from hunts, rabbits, eggs, and delicious goodies of all descriptions, with a healthy dose of curiosity thrown in! Wednesday’s remain our cookery days for all ages, whilst we will be exploring our Easter theme with a variety of arts and crafts on all other days. But hurry, places are filling fast!!

It’s almost time for our next Exhibition in the d.@rt foyer… Come the 8th April the new Exhibition called ‘Reflections’ will be going up. The work on display will show a myriad of responses to the theme of ‘Reflection’ whether thoughtful or physical. Artists exhibiting will include: Sarah Fletcher, Iris Hill, Elizabeth Lea, Emma Morrissey, Steve Richardson, Elizabeth Saunders and Mihaela Zhekova Price. ‘Reflections’ will remain on display until 24th May 2019 with the launch being an opportunity to meet the artists and find out more about the individual works.

ABBA are one of the most popular and enduring bands of all time, with countless singles and classic songs to their name. Join us for our ABBA Choral day, Saturday 6th April where you will learn unique ensemble arrangements of a number of classic tracks, before performing for your family in an informal afternoon concert. Music reading ability is not required as all parts are taught by ear, and this day will be a great introduction for anyone new to singing in a group with different vocal harmonies. Singers of all ages and abilities welcome, the emphasis on our group singing days is always on the fun and social aspect of ensemble singing, just give us a call to book your place!
