WHERE & WHEN
This is a non-competing festival, providing local choirs the opportunity to perform and meet other choirs. The festival takes place on Saturday June 1st 2019 from 10.30 am – 5.00 pm.
We are pleased to be able to hire again the Main Hall at the King’s Community Church, Upper Northam Road, Hedge End, Southampton, SO30 4BZ which is situated very close to junction 7 of the M27 as you head towards Hedge End village.
There is ample parking for 300+ cars. You can also use Turnpike Way which is opposite the golf course (next door). Parking is available for a few coaches, but please let us know if you intend to use a coach.
The main Hall seats about 300, plus a gallery area seating 99. Visitors are most welcome and choirs are encouraged to bring friends and supporters. As choirs will be sitting in the audience until their performance slot the gallery will be used solely for visitors.
The platform will take a maximum of 72 persons. For any performers in wheelchairs there is no ramp for the stage, but will be able to see clearly from the side of the stage, which is semi-hexagonal in shape and will accommodate 6 rows in the following pattern:-
Back row 11
Front row 9
An electric piano will be provided and basic PA for the playing of backing tracks only.
There are 3 performance sessions in which 4/6 choirs will perform:-
Session 1; 10.30 am – 12.30 pm / Session 2; 1.15 pm – 2.45 pm / Session 3; 3.30pm – 5.00 pm.
From 9.30am the Olive room on the first floor will be available. A rehearsal timetable table will be issued some-time in May once all details have been submitted by choirs.
The final programme will be published when all the details from the participating choirs is in and agreed. There will be a programme available on the day, free to all singers. A charge of £2 for a programme will be made for audience.
Choirs need to submit their final programme by Thursday April 18th so that they can be collated and printed. PLEASE remember that a choir’s set is limited to 15 minutes max and MUST take into account getting to the platform, MD’s introductions and comments, and applause. It is vital that choirs stick to this timing so as not too over-run the sessions and to be fair to other choirs who keep within their time.
The cost is £3 per singer up to 31st January. Payments made after this date will be at £4 per singer. This fee will cover the hire of the hall, insurance and performing rights license. The complete fee is due by April 18th. The ayments are being handled by The D@.rt Centre at Wildern Community College.
Refreshments (tea/coffee/biscuits), hot and cold snacks will be available throughout the event. Other places to eat are close by:- The opposite side of junction 7 has a large M&S, Sainsbury’s, McDonalds & Burger King. If you carry on down Upper Northam Road you reach Hedge End village there is Domino’s Pizza, a Subway (in Budgens), a Chippy and The Barleycorn Pub.
