Welcome to The Dart, a Community Arts Centre exhibiting work by 5 professional artists and makers and two community groups, including a varied selection of acrylic & oil paintings, textiles, ceramics, drawings, photographs, glass art, unique gift items and more!

Paul Best - Landscape and abstract painter creating distinctive, colourful and textural artworks with acrylic and reflective paints. Paul is particularly drawn to painting landscapes and seascapes and abstracts inspired by nature. He exhibits and sells his paintings on line, at exhibitions and also through Hampshire based Art Galleries and Shops and now has paintings in collections across the UK and in America, France, Switzerland, Germany, Spain, Italy the Caribbean and Australia. Paul has qualified in Landscape Architecture and Fine Art (Painting) and is a Fellow of the Landscape Institute. His practice as a national award winning landscape architect greatly informs his paintings andvice versa.

Elizabeth Saunders (First 5 days) -Textile Artist who works with paint, print, stitch and recycled fabrics. She has showcased her creations in galleries and national exhibitions, drawing inspiration from both historic and contemporary artists. Elizabeth finds great excitement and reward in inspiring others about textiles.Her work often draws from her personal memories and life journeys, expressing themes of imagination, fragility, motivation, experience, and determination. Through her art, she aims to make invisible memories visible.
Elizabeth employs a variety of mixed media in her exhibition pieces, and her miniature artworks and sketchbooks are based on her own drawings. She is a member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen and the Wessex Guild of Craftsmen. Elizabeth also holds an MA in Textile Design (Merit) and a BA (Hons) in Textile Art from the Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton. Additionally, she has an MA in Education and a BNS (Hons) from the same institution, reflecting her background in nursing.

Mike Woodward (Last 5 days) - Wildlife Artist. "Hello my name is Mike Woodward. I'm a self taught artist based in Southampton. My work is all created using wax based colour pencils. My subject is wildlife,which stems from a life long passion for the natural world."

Vicki North - Ceramic Artist. "Hi, I'm Vicki North, a ceramics and needle felting artist. My passion for ceramics began during my school years, and in 2019, I finally set up my own kiln at home. This marked the start of my ceramics journey, combining my love for clay with the joy of creating personalized and unique items.
North Family Arts is a family affair, with everyone contributing to the creative process and daily operations. Our household includes my supportive husband, two daughters, our dogs, and a variety of pets, all of whom inspire and assist in our art-making.I love the versatility of ceramics and felting, creating special items like wedding favors and baby gifts. Sharing these skills through workshops brings me immense joy, allowing others to experience the magic of creating their own art."

Flagship Art Group - A local group for adults with learning disabilities, exploring different ways to be creative. Flagship Art Group provides an opportunity for members to engage in self-expression through art and focus on artistic activities. The group meets weekly at the Hilldene Centre which provides a quiet environment where people can learn about art in more depth and appreciate each other’s talents.
The group's motto is 'You don't have to be an artist, any level is welcome' -
Hedge End Bobbin Lacemakers - A crafting group teaching the timeless craft of lacemaking from traditional to contemporary styles. Hedge End Bobbin Lacemakers has been running for 15 years and provides a friendly group to learn and grow in our lace journeys. Discover the art of bobbin lace making with the Hedge End Bobbin Lacemakers, where our top-notch classes will teach you the skills to create beautiful lace pieces. Join our community of passionate lace makers and let us guide you through this intricate craft. We are a taught group who enjoy demonstrating our skills at events and going away together just to make lace. Our Tutor has designed a series of patterns for the beginner to learn techniques required to get you started on your lace journey. Little Glass Robin - Glass artist creating playful, fused glass art inspired by nature and the coast. Gemma is a fused glass artist based in Hedge End, Hampshire. She studied a degree in BA(Hons) Glass at the University of Wolverhampton from 2003, where she specialised in glass blowing. After graduating she studied at the International Glass Centre, Dudley, and began working with fused glass. Gemma’s current work includes playful, nature-inspired glass designs incorporating locally sourced driftwood. Her work often depicts various cheeky sea birds, inspired by her love of the coast. She creates her work using traditional cutting and layering techniques and often incorporates wire and glassline paints in her fused glass

Come and meet Catherine and Kat from Re:So - Solent University Student Art Shop!
Re:So is Solent University's retail initiative that showcases student and graduate talents in various creative disciplines. They can sell their creations in the campus store and online, gain work experience, and receive mentoring to enhance their skills. This initiative stems from the University’s work-based learning modules, offering students real-world experience in applying for placements, interviews, and roles like merchandising, social media, marketing, and product photography. Additionally, students collaborate on pop-up and community events.
