Stitch Your Style: Dressmaking  for All Levels (Term Time Only)

Join us on Saturdays 10am -12pm (during term time only) for a friendly and informal dressmaking course where you'll embark on your own unique sewing journey! Whether you're a complete beginner eager to learn the basics or an experienced sewist looking to expand your skills, this class offers something for everyone.

What you'll be learning:

• Mastering Your Machine: Gain confidence in using a sewing machine, from threading and basic operation to troubleshooting common issues.
• Creating Your Vision: Learn the fundamental steps to make a garment of your choice, guided by expert tuition.
• Essential Sewing Techniques: Discover a range of valuable sewing techniques that will help you achieve a professional finish on your projects. This includes measuring, fitting, and construction methods tailored to your chosen garment.

Our qualified and passionate sewing and textiles tutor, Elaine, will provide individual support and guidance, ensuring you understand the core skills of dressmaking and offering more advanced techniques for those ready to delve deeper.

What to bring:

• Your own standard domestic sewing machine in good working order (must have a valid PAT test sticker) You can also arrange PAT testing with the Dart Centre Team.
• Your chosen garment pattern and fabric.
• A notebook for taking notes.
• A basic sewing kit (Elaine will also have extra equipment and notions available).
• Thread to match your fabric.

This course provides a supportive and encouraging environment for you to learn at your own pace and create something beautiful. Please note that this course runs during school term times only.

We also have a coffeeshop in our centre if you would like to get refreshments before the class but we suggest doing this 15 minutes beforehand.

 About the Tutor:

Hello, I'm Elaine Hobden, a lifelong garment maker with a passion for sharing the art of dressmaking. I honed my skills through a City and Guilds Fashion and Design course, where I learned the intricacies of designing garments, drafting and cutting patterns, and the professional techniques of garment construction. My unique touch involves combining hand embroidery with machine embroidery to add a personal flair to my designs.
